Since my last post, I adopted a pair of one-year-old female working cats. I kept them in an extra large dog crate on the back porch under a shelter. Neither of them warmed up to me in the slightest during the three weeks that I kept them confined. A few days ago, I left the door to the crate open after feeding them and waited to see what they would do.
One if the cats left within moments of my going back inside. We saw her in the lower part of the back yard a couple times later that evening, but nothing after that. The second one stuck around and, although she ventured out in the interim, was inside the crate the next morning when I put more food out. Then nothing for a couple of days. The food was barely touched, and we never saw either of them.
Yesterday, I decided to check the camera footage. I found a brief visit to the back porch by the first one around midnight the previous night, followed an hour later by an unknown black cat. Nothing from the other one. Again, minimal disturbance of the food.
Last night after I went to bed, Wife saw both of our adoptees on the back porch together, eating and hanging out. They were long gone by the time I got up this morning, but all the food was gone for the first time since I released them. Maybe they will stay.
