Effective immediately, I will no longer be participating in anything for the purpose of politics or political activism. I will actively seek to minimize the effect that government at all levels has on my life. I will increase my efforts to thwart government attempts to spy on me, invade my privacy, and generally keep tabs on me. I will evaluate each edict, and will decide on a case-by-case basis which (if any) to defy, based on risk and possible repercussions.
In addition, for the entire 2014 calendar year, I will keep detailed records of exactly how much I pay in taxes of all kinds. In addition to all mandatory payroll deductions, no matter what they are called, and all sales tax, I will attempt to document the less visible taxes. Per gallon gasoline tax, real estate and property taxes, permits and user fees, and even the cost of my health and automobile liability insurance. If there is a law that requires me to purchase a product or service, regardless of whether the government gets the money directly or not, it is a tax. I will not attempt to include indirect items, such as how much of the cost of a product went to paying the corporate tax of the producer, wholesaler and/or retailer. I am very interested in knowing what my true tax burden is, although I will probably be both enraged and depressed when I learn the result. I will post this information at regular intervals.
Don’t forget the 11% Pitman-Robertson on sporting goods.
Thanks for stopping by, and for the reminder. That is one that will impact me, and I would have missed it.
Interesting. I’d like to say that I am anxious to see what you find, but I’m sure it will just make me angry
I will post a detailed report every month, including a ‘percentage of income’ calculation. I know it’s going to piss me off, but knowledge is power.
Thanks for stopping by.
