Remember the job interview I went on last Monday? The one that is a temporary assignment while one of their mechanics is on “light duty”? The one I was sure I didn’t get because it had been almost two weeks since the interview?
This morning, I was informed that they want me for the position, and would like for me to start as soon as my background check clears and I pass the physical/drug screen. They offered two dollars more per hour than my stated minimum – well over two and a half times my BigBoxRetailer wage. And full-time hours. In sixteen weeks, I will have earned more than I would have earned in a full year at BBR. The tax burden will be higher, of course, so I won’t get to keep all the extra.
I talked to my current boss, who just recently got me the position in Sporting Goods, and he promised to work with me. I explained that, since it is a temporary assignment, I would like to stay on the books at BigBoxRetailer, working maybe one shift per week, so I can transition back to my normal thirty-two hours per week there after the assignment terminates. He told me that as long as I let him know what I need as early as possible, he’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.
I anticipate starting next Monday, the seventeenth, on day shift. Where I end up from there is yet to be determined. I fully intend to work my ass off, and convince them that they absolutely must move heaven and earth to keep me on, even after the regular guy returns to full duty. Wish me luck.
Congratulations! It’s so awesome to have an accommodating boss like that. Here’s hoping the regular guy decides to retire.
Thank you. I wish I could take my current boss with me to my new assignment.
I’ll certainly drink to the other guy’s early retirement.
I’ll do more than wish you luck; I’ll wish you GOOD luck. In fact, only the best of luck for you!
Thanks, Sweetie!!
What did I tell ya? Congratulations. It’s been a long dry spell but you did it!!!!! I am very happy for ya. Hope you can stay on as permanent. Great news, old friend!
Thank you! I, too, hope that it lasts longer than then expected “few months”.
Congratulations! I hope you can spin this into a permanent gig.
Thanks! I’m certainly going to do my best.
W00t! Luck!
Thanks!
